Change the FID in a QBO file

FID (Financial Institution ID) is a numeric identifier in the OFX-family file header that identifies the originating bank. It appears in the element inside the block in the SONRS section. QuickBooks uses both FID and INTU.BID for institution matching.

Changing FID is less common than changing INTU.BID, but sometimes necessary: bank mergers change FID values; some banks use placeholder or incorrect FIDs in their export files; and some accounting software specifically requires a matching FID.

QBOConvert's full version includes an FID override field separate from INTU.BID. Enter the correct FID value for your bank to update the file header. The FID is a pure string value — any number your bank publishes as its OFX FID will work.

How to change the FID

  1. Open QBOConvert (full version required for overrides).
  2. Drop your file. Note the existing FID shown in the file report.
  3. Enter the correct FID in the FID override field.
  4. Convert to your target format. The output file contains the updated FID.

Questions

What is the FID for Chase / Bank of America / Wells Fargo?

Common FIDs are included in QBOConvert's bank preset library. Select your bank from the preset list and the FID field auto-fills.

Is FID the same as INTU.BID?

No. FID is in the standard OFX element. INTU.BID is an Intuit-specific extension. For QuickBooks, INTU.BID is more important for institution matching. Both may need to be correct for a clean import.
